UO In Top 3 For Newby, Decision This Summer

Depending on how who you ask, some say that West Hills (CA) Chaminade College Prep three-star running back Terrell Newby is the best high school running back in Southern California. With plans to make his college decision this summer, Newby will take unofficial visits to California, Oregon, Nebraska, and perhaps Washington, before making the call.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yeah, it was one of my first offers. It came from coach (Gary) Campbell. I was really intrigued by the offer, especially since the offense is very similar to our high school's offense."

How long ago did Oregon offer you?

"It was a few months back. It was around when my recruiting process started to heat up."

How often would you say that you and coach Campbell speak?

"I'd say a couple times every few weeks, I think. He came by the school last week actually and I got a chance to speak to him."

In your conversations with coach Campbell, what kinds of things have the two of you discussed?

"He's talking to me about how right now, there's only a couple backs on scholarship at Oregon right now and that they could really use another back. I could be really used in the system right now because it's so similar and all my coaches run the same stuff."

What does coach Campbell like about you as a running back?

"Definitely my vision and my ability to make a cut up field. He said I'd be a really reliable factor in the offense."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"Right now they're standing in my top three at this time."

What is your top three?

"I had narrowed it down about a week ago. I had it down to California, Oregon, and Nebraska, but I think I'm going to open it up a little bit to Washington also."

Do you have a timetable for when you'd like to have a decision?

"Yeah, I'm going to do it this summer sometime. I haven't set up the date, but I know I'm going to take all my unofficial visits first and we'll see how that goes."

What is it about Oregon that has them in your top three to four schools?

"It's the tradition they have and their speed of the game. Down here, we really don't huddle at all. That kind of offense is something that Oregon has really implemented throughout the years and I think I could come in and make an impact because I'm so used to the speed of the offense and just the fast program that they have over there."

Have you scheduled out your unofficial visits yet?

"No, I'm taking a visit to Nebraska on June 16...I was going to go to the Cal camp, but I had a state track meet this past Sunday and I wasn't able to make it, but I'm definitely going to make my unofficial visits in the summer."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"A very physical back with a great deal of speed and power. Coach tells me I'm a balanced back, but also more of a speed kind of back, so I think I can be implemented in a lot of ways. I really like to use my hands in the offense, also."

Is there a player at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Probably right now, it'd be Adrian Peterson and Reggie Bush."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Definitely my relationship with the position coach and then the school itself; is it a school that I want to play football at and a school I want to attend because of the ambiance and the people around me."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want study when you get to college?

"Yeah, I want to major in anything that revolves around business."
