Fleet looked strong in running 3:58.90, finishing behind only Austin Mudd of Wisconsin, who won in 3:58.59. More importantly, that time moved Fleet into the top 16 nationally in the mile, making him eligible for a bid to next weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville, Ark.
Fleet, a junior from San Diego, Calif., became the fifth different Duck to run a sub-4:00 mile this season, joining Brett Johnson (3:58.62), Matt Miner (3:59.01), Jeramy Elkaim (3:59.18) and Chad Noelle (3:59.57).
Noelle, a freshman from Greene, N.Y., finished eighth in the mile on Saturday in 4:01.98.
Also, Arthur Delaney ran 21.30 in the 200 meters to finish fourth overall. The sophomore from Gresham, Ore., missed a PR by .04.
