Bowling for Kilcullen Scholarship Fund

EUGENE – The University of Oregon's football program has made a habit of playing in bowl games over the past two decades but this time around, the cause runs much deeper than the post-season rewards for success on the playing field.

For the third year in a row, members of the Oregon football team and coaching staff will take part in "Bowlin' with the Ducks" as a means to help raise funds for the Kilcullen Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Emerald Lanes in Eugene.

Established in 2011 to honor the memory of Eugene police officer Chris Kilcullen – who was killed in the line of duty on April 22, 2011 – this scholarship, administered by the Oregon Community Foundation, is awarded annually to a deserving University of Oregon or Northwest Christian University student passionate about serving their community.

Applications to take part in the event are available online at, with participation open to the general public.

"Bowlin' with the Ducks" will consist of 24 teams, with groups of four participants from the community to be paired with a minimum of one Oregon football player or coach on a first-come basis. The deadline for pre-registration for participants is Monday, May 27, with the donation to participate in the event being $400 per foursome.

The event also will consist of a silent auction, while donations also will be accepted. Donations can be directed to the Oregon Football Office, 2727 Leo Harris Parkway, Eugene, Ore., 97401. It is requested that all checks be made payable to O Heroes – a philanthropic non-profit organization run by UO student-athletes and geared toward community service – and should include a notation for the Kilcullen Memorial Fund.
