Carew Discusses Decision

Saturday evening, Oregon picked up its sixth verbal commitment in La Verne (Calif.) Damien long snapper Tanner Carew.

Wanting to stay closer to home and citing a solid academic program, top California long snapper Tanner Carew gave his verbal commitment to Oregon on Saturday. Carew became the Ducks sixth verbal commitment thus far for the class of 2014.

"The academic support for student athletes is incredible," Carew said. "That was a big deal in my decision."

The 6-foot-2, 215 pound athlete has been lauded in evaluations for his size and ability to quickly and accurately zip the ball to the punter. Coach Tom Osbourne had been in contact with Carew and seemingly found the player he was looking for.

"He told me before that he was looking for the number one guy and I was just hoping it was me," Carew said.

Carew said he is excited for the opportunities to excel outside of football. He stressed that he is extremely focused on academics and that Oregon was the best fit for him given that they offer his intended major.

"They have a top of the line broadcast communications program and that's the major that I want to get into," Carew said.

Carew also spoke highly of the Eugene area.

"I had no idea how good of an area it was," Carew said. "I got up there and really enjoyed it. It's a college town."
