Big 12 Soccer Champion Transferring to Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Mia Gunter, who won a Big 12 Conference women's soccer title with West Virginia last season, has transferred to Oregon and will be a sophomore for the Ducks this fall, head coach Kat Mertz announced Monday.

Gunter, a defender/midfielder from Edmonton, Alberta, played in 10 games for the Mountaineers, starting four. Primarily a defender for WVU, she had one assist on the season.

"We are excited to have Mia join our Duck family," said Mertz. "She brings experience and great passion for the game and I look forward to seeing her in action this fall."

Gunter comes to Eugene with a wealth of international experience. She was named to five provincial all-star teams in Canada and was part of seven provincial championships. She is also a member of the National Training Center, which is Canada's equivalent of the U.S. Olympic Development Program.

As a senior in 2011, Gunter led St. Francis Xavier High School to the Catholic City championship.
