Lyerla Withdraws from School

The University of Oregon announced on Sunday that starting tight end, junior Colt Lyerla has withdrawn from school. In a story on the Oregon Athletic Department's official website, Lyerla indicated that he informed Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich of his decision on Sunday afternoon.

"We wish Colt nothing but the best in the future, and will support him in any way we can," said Helfrich.

The Oregon headman also said he will decline any further comment on the matter.

The Athletic Department story also indicated that Lyerla has no plans to transfer to another college program but instead plans to pursue a professional career.

In the three games Lyerla played this season he recorded two catches for 22 yards. He also had three rushing carries for 17 yards. Lyerla did not make the trip to Colorado this weekend and missed the home game against Tennessee and told reporters after that game that he was absent due to illness.
