Cleared to Play 2013-14 Season

The University of Oregon today announced through an Athletic Department on-line transfer guard Joseph Young has been cleared by NCAA Compliance to play for the Ducks for the 2013-14 season. Young transferred to Oregon from Houston will join fellow transfer and Portland native Mike Moser this Sunday when the Ducks play Northwest Christian University in an exhibition game.

The game on Sunday will feature many new faces for the Ducks including Joseph Young and Mike Moser. Besides Young and Moser other new players are Jalil Abdul-Bassit, Richard Amardi, Jason Calliste, Elgin Cook, Brian Crow and freshmen Theo Friedman and A.J. Lapray.

Returners for the 2013-14 squad are seniors John Loyd and Waverly Austin, sophomores Ben Carter, Dominic Artis and Damymean Dotson plus red shirt freshman and football player Arik Armstead.

While Armstead is listed on the basketball roster it is unlikely he will see any action on the basketball court until the Ducks finish football season, likely not until sometime after the start of the Pac-12 season.

NWU is coached by former Duck legend Luke Jackson, in his first year as headman for the Beacons. NWU is located just three blocks from the University of Oregon campus in Eugene.

Sunday's game will be carried on Pac-12 Networks with former Oregon coach Ernie Kent providing comments on the contest for the 5 p.m. tipoff in a game that will played at Matthew Knight Arena.
