Ducks Notch Win in Season Opener

The Oregon Ducks traveled all the way to Camp Humphries in the Republic of South Korea to face Georgetown in the Armed Forces Classic and came away with an 82-75 win over the Hoyas. Joseph Young paced the Ducks with 24 points and shot a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.

Oregon shot 20-for-49 in field goal shooting including six-for-22 behind the 3-point arc. The Ducks also were very effective at the free throw line hitting 36-of-44 free throws. Jason Calliste had 16 while Mike Moser contributed 15 points in addition to recording six steals.

Georgetown was led in scoring by former UCLA Bruin Joshua Smith who had a game high 25 while being before fouling out late in the game. Markel Starks chipped in 16 while Jabril Trawick added 11 and Mikael Hopkins had 10 before also fouling out.

For the game Georgetown was 27-of-59 in field goal shooting but only one 3-pointer in 15 tries. The Hoyas were 20-of-30 from the charity stripe.

Oregon led at halftime 37-34 but trailed at one point in the second half 42-39. However, behind Young's ability to get to the free throw line and some timely scoring by Calliste and Moser the Ducks regained the lead at the 15:50 mark leading 47-44 and led the rest of the game though Georgetown was able to trim the lead to four (75-71) with 55 seconds left to play in the contest.
