Johnson will learn more about both schools next week when he trips to Southern California, and he believes one could be closer to offering than the other.
"I'm thinking USC," Johnson said. "I go up on the 29th I think, and then I'll visit UCLA as well. But I'm pretty confident USC would be the first offer and possibly UCLA."
Johnson said he's been talking more frequently with the Trojans coaching staff and hopes to get to know them better during his visit.
"I just want to meet some of the coaches and kind of see the facilities, as well as some practices," Johnson said.
If he visits Westwood, Johnson said he wants to see more of the campus in addition to the facilities. Outside of those trips, he plans on attending Junior Day at Arizona on April 12, and there is a possibility that he could visit Arizona State right after that.
Although he'll be busy with visits, Johnson plans on participating at some offseason camps. He wants to hit a couple of bigger camps this spring and might even attend events at USC, UCLA and Texas.
"I'm for sure doing the NFTC (Oakland) and possibly The Opening," he said.
One school that Johnson is interested in is Oregon. Johnson said he has talked with members of the coaching staff and is friends with current Ducks running back and Valley Christian alumnus Byron Marshall.
Although their conversations tend to not revolve around recruiting according to Johnson, he said progress is being made with Oregon.
"I've talked to him a little bit," Johnson said. "Right now I'm trying to set up a visit."
Johnson isn't sure if he'll drag the recruiting process out into 2015 or decide before next season. But he knows exactly what he's looking for in a program.
"As of right now I'm pretty open to a bunch of schools," Johnson said. "It's whoever comes to me and shows interest that is probably going to be the one."
