Spring Day 14: Game all that's left

EUGENE - Spring practice has concluded, now all that remains is Saturday's spring game.

EUGENE - Spring practice has concluded, now all that remains is Saturday's spring game.

Wednesday coordinators Scott Frost and Don Pellum discussed what they hoped to see from their units this weekend.

Frost admitted they'd keep things "pretty basic" with the inexperienced players taking the bulk of the reps.

"We've got a lot of young guys playing in the spring game, so we're not go to do anything too fancy, but it's going to be really competitive. So, I'm excited to watch those guys," he said.

Similarly, Pellum is curious to see how those playing in their first spring game respond to the transition of silent practices and scrimmages to live action at Autzen Stadium.

"The big thing for me is that all of those kids show up here Saturday morning the way they would for a real game, and that as the prepare and sit in the locker room, they really start to think. Then they come out with that emotion and passion and leave it on the field," he said.

"Who's going to be that guy who had a pretty good spring and all of a sudden shows up on Saturday? That's what I'm excited to see."

Frost (team "Mariasu") and Pellum (team "Twifo") are each heading a squad this weekend. Pellum believes that teams are "pretty even", but that "Saturday will play itself out."

Walk-on quarterback Taylor Alie remains a player to watch entering this weekend. Alie has drawn praise during the spring and according to Frost is "in competition" for the second quarterback spot.

"The thing he does a great job is he doesn't get rattled," Frost said of the Sheldon HS product. "He just goes through his reads, does everything he's supposed to do, he's real efficient. But he can make throws and make plays too." Alie will be play on team "Twifo" this Saturday.
