Ducks Up 7-3 in Defensive Struggle

EUGENE – This game was supposed to be an offensive shootout, but so far in the first half the defenses of both squads have had the say. Oregon leads into halftime 7-3. The Ducks scored on a 28-yard halfback pass from Royce Freeman to quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Arizona held a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter after Arizona kicker Casey Skowron booted a 28-yard field goal at the 8:57 mark of the first quarter.

Oregon’s touchdown resulted after an eight play, 75 yard drive that culminated with a 28-yard pass by running back Royce Freeman to Marcus Mariota, who caught the ball and tangled with a defender going into the end zone. The play was reviewed as Mariota fumbled the ball, but the play was ruled a touchdown because Mariota crossed the goal line before the ball came out his hand.

For the game the Ducks have 210 yards of total offense to Arizona’s 172. Arizona has turned the ball over on a pass interception by Oregon’s Reggie Daniels and a fumble late in the second quarter. Oregon has turned the ball over once when the ball was knocked out Mariota’s hands also late the 2nd quarter.

Mariota has 102 yards passing on 9-of-16 passing and has been sacked three times. Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon is 7-for-13 for 70 yards and the interception.

Terris Jones-Grisby is the leading rusher for the Wildcats with 57 net yards on 11 carries while Royce Freeman has 57 yards also on 11 carries for the Ducks.
