The Nelson Leap

When Charles Nelson leaped toward the goal line during the 101st Rose Bowl, the crowd gasped. Did he score a touchdown? Did he break his neck? Nelson came very close to scoring and it took Oregon only two plays to finish off the drive with a Royce Freeman touchdown.

On Oregon's second possession of the game, Marcus Mariota on a 14-yard pass. As Nelson headed down the sideline he took off at about the 5-yard line and leaped toward the endzone. He came up just inches short and while it took an official review of the play to confirm he had not scored, two plays later, Royce Freeman bulldozed his way in for the score. Following a successful throw from Taylor Alie to Christian French for a 2-point conversion, Oregon took the lead for good, 8-3 and later went on to win the game 59-20 over Florida State.

Oregon now faces Ohio State a week from today at the National Championship game in Dallas.
