Harris snags first offer

Marrero (La.) Ehret linebacker Dejon Harris picks up his first FBS offer from Oregon.

Dejon Harris picked up his first FBS offer on Friday night and it was a big one. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Marrero (La.) Ehret linebacker was offered by Oregon outside linebackers coach Erik Chinander along with his teammate four-star linebacker Michael Divinity.

“It was exciting,” Harris said. “Especially from Oregon, like that’s one of the top programs in the country. And for that to be my first offer too, I was very excited about it.”

Harris said that Chinander and offensive coordinator Scott Frost expressed interest in the pair while swinging through Louisiana before National Signing Day on the way to visit then-uncommitted running back/wide receiver Kirk Merritt.

“He said he was going to evaluate us and last night he kind of gave me and Michael a call and they offered us,” he said.

Now armed with the offer, Harris’ recruitment has already received a boost.

“Once I got the Oregon offer, then the rest of the coaches started coming,” he said. “Like last night my phone was blowing up.”

Mississippi State, LSU, UCLA, Tennessee and Florida State are programs showing interest in Harris right now. On Saturday, Harris got a closer look at LSU and said that his visit there was enjoyable.

“We were just coming up here for Junior Day,” he said. “The coaches wanted a couple of us to come out here and look at the campus and talk to some of the coaches.”

Harris said he’s planning to take visits over the spring and summer but isn’t sure where to yet. He hopes to visit Oregon by the start of next season.
