Alloway on Oregon

Fontana (Calif.) Summit athlete Damian Alloway discusses Oregon and who’s been recruiting him the hardest.

Four-star athlete Damian Alloway has seen his recruitment continue to rise as one of the top running backs in the country. UCLA, Utah, Washington, Washington State, Colorado, California, Duke and Kansas have all offered the speedy 5-foot-10, 170-pound SoCal prospect and more are almost certainly on the way. Alloway detailed how Oregon, a program he believes is close to offering, entered the picture.

“I met (Head Coach Mark) Helfrich about a month ago,” he said. “We had a 5-10 minute good conversation. He told me that they’re really interested, that them recruiting me is going to really start picking up. They’ve been emailing my coach a lot. They like to talk to teachers and stuff so they called my teacher a couple days ago making sure that my character was right.”

Alloway is highly interested in Oregon for a multitude of reasons.

“Honestly, they just played in a national championship,” he said. “They’re one of the best programs in the nation right now and knowing that they’re type of offense is the type of offense I love playing in — just the speed and they throw the ball and the hurry up — I could just see myself playing in an offense like that.”

Flipping that around, the Ducks have plenty of things that they like about Alloway besides his speed. Ranked as a top 10 wide receiver in the West region, he can do a lot more than catch and run.

“They just really like that I can play multiple things,” he said. “I’m rated the No. 1 all-purpose back in the nation, but I can also play wide receiver. I can go run routes, I can run the ball, I can go between the tackles.

“If I do need to I can help play defense. I could play corner, play safety. That’s pretty much what they’re really liking.”

Alloway is fine with filling whatever role is available if he ends up choosing Oregon. But it’ll surely be a fight to land him with several other programs coming after him hard.

USC and UCLA have been recruiting me kinda hard lately,” he said. “I don’t have the USC offer yet, but I’ve been talking to a lot of coaches lately. Then Washington has been recruiting me kinda hard and Notre Dame. That’s honestly what I think could be my next offer. I just talked to Coach Elliott a few days ago and he said that I’m going to talk to the offensive coordinator on the phone soon to hopefully get the offer.”

Alloway intends on attending a Nike Football Training Camp next month and a Rivals camp in May. He said he is no rush to make a decision at this time.
