Todora hustling this offseason

Frisco (Tex.) Wakeland offensive tackle Jacob Todora discusses his recruiting strategy, which programs he's hearing back from, and upcoming trips

Jacob Todora is making sure major colleges know his name. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound three-star offensive tackle out of Frisco (Tex.), who holds offers from Illinois and SMU, has been furiously sending off emails and getting in contact with any big-time university he feels he’d be a good fit at.

Oregon has been one of the programs that has expressed interest after offensive line coach Steve Greatwood and assistant offensive line coach Joe Bernardi viewed the three-star prospect's film and liked what they saw.

“I emailed Oregon a lot and they finally got back to me,” he said. “(Coach Bernardi) messaged me on Twitter and asked me to call him and so I called him and he talked about how he really liked my film, him and Coach Greatwood. They think I’d be the perfect athletic build for their program.”

Oregon is known for its lengthy background checks on potential student-athletes and it’s no different for Todora. Things at least appear to check out academically as he self-reported a 3.88 grade point average and a score of 1700 on his S.A.T.

Todora said he likes Oregon because it’s not all about size up front.

“Some colleges just put the biggest guy they can find out there and it doesn’t really work,” he said. “Oregon, they have to make sure that athlete fits well with their program and they find the right type of athleticism in that person, so I really like that.”

In fact, Todora believes his athleticism plays to his favor since he can always add size later.

“I can still grow into the big guy they want,” he said. “That’s how it would work out with me so I think that’s a big advantage.”

Outside of the Ducks, Todora mentioned Houston as a school that is showing continual interest as of late. the Cougars should receive a visit from him shortly, along with a couple of other programs.

“I’m scheduled to visit Arizona State this week,” he said. “I’m supposed to leave this Friday. Next week in University of Houston and then I’m visiting Illinois in April I think.”
