Gilchrist and Oregon building relationship

Bellevue (Wash.) cornerback Isaiah Gilchrist discusses his latest offer from Oregon, potential leaders and a significant factor that will play into his decision

On Thursday, the public learned that four-star cornerback Isaiah Gilchrist had picked up an offer from Oregon. However, the Bellevue prospect told eDuck that he had learned about the offer on Monday, but it seems the offer, which was extended by secondary coach John Neal, had been out there for much longer.

“He said I had had an offer,” Gilchrist said of a conversation he had with Neal. “But (I) was unaware of it and just let me know Monday that I had one.”

Although surprised, Gilchrist has put Oregon among his top programs, a list that includes Arizona, Arizona State, USC, and hometown Washington.

“It’s towards the upper part of my list,” Gilchrist said. “I kinda got to go back and re-edit my list now that I have Oregon in it so I’m not entirely sure exactly.”

Monday was the first time that Gilchrist had spoken with Neal, so their relationship is still in the early stages. He’s trying to visit Oregon sometime over the summer, but will consult his coach before making any plans for fear of it interfering with football activities.

Gilchrist had an early leader, but claims that trips to California, USC, UCLA, ASU and Arizona over spring break caused him to reevaluate things.

“It was UW,” he said. “But then I went on visits and UW and Wazzu were kind of the only ones I’d visited. But after seeing other places it kind of opened my eyes more than just Washington.”

Gilchrist is planning on taking advantage of his official visits before making a decision. One big factor that will play into his decision will be his mother.

“I’m open to wherever,” he said. “It’s really what fits me best. Really the only thing would just be my mom being close and being able to see the games. That’d be kind of nice, but it’s nothing too big. I’m sure that my mom, wherever I go, she’ll find a way to come see me as much as possible.”
