Vavae Malepeai picks up Oregon offer

Mililani (Hawaii) running back Vavae Malepeai discusses his latest offer from Oregon and if he has plans to visit

Three-star running back Vavae Malepeai added another offer to his impressive list this week when Oregon came calling. The Mililani (Hawaii) prospect, fresh off a showing at the Oakland Opening Regional last weekend, spoke to eDuck about the offer, which he received from linebackers coach Erik Chinander, on Thursday evening.

“When I first got it, I was kind of tripping out,” he said. “Of course I was excited, but we’ve been in contact for a while so it was just a good feeling of accomplishment.”

Happy that his hard work has paid off, Malepeai said Oregon likes him at running back. He hasn’t been told specifically what the coaches like about his game, but he does know Chinander has been keeping an eye on him for some time and was told that the Ducks wanted to finally make it official with an offer.

Malepeai will take an unofficial visit to Oregon next month and subsequently participate at the final Nike Football Opening Regional in Eugene on June 14. When asked if the offer was significant, he quickly responded.

“It definitely is,” he said.

Malepeai has family connections at UO. His uncles, Silila, Tasi, and Pulou all played for the Ducks.
