Yaghi stunned by Oregon offer

Santa Ana (Calif.) Foothill defensive tackle Chris Yaghi picked up a big offer on Thursday night from a Pac-12 power.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Foothill defensive tackle Chris Yaghi picked up a big offer on Thursday from Oregon. The 6-foot-3.5, 270-pound prospect spoke with eDuck.com shortly after receiving the offer from defensive line coach Ron Aiken.

“I was stunned,” Yaghi said of the offer. “It was just an amazing feeling.”

Oregon joins offers from Boise State, Utah, Washington State, Nevada, Air Force, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV, but the latest offer is a significant one for Yaghi.

“It’s definitely at the top,” he said. “It’s by far the favorite I would say.”

Yaghi’s connection with Aiken dates back to January when the coach visited Foothill and the two exchanged phone numbers. Yaghi called him in February and was evaluated later over the spring by defense/special teams intern Shawn Young. That led to the offer on Thursday.

A future visit to Oregon is in the works, but Yaghi is waiting to see which dates will work best to travel. He said Aiken likes the way he moves the center back and pursues the ball. He also touched on his relationship with both Aiken and Young at this point.

“I think it’s pretty good,” he said. “I’ve only talked to them a few times, but I think we’ve really made a connection.”

Yaghi discussed potential leaders at this point in his recruitment and indicated he's in no rush to name one.

“Oregon is up there,” he said. “But I don’t want to pick a favorite and just close my options if you know what I mean.”

Yaghi is not planning on making a quick decision. He plans on taking official visits with Oregon, Boise State, Utah, San Diego State, Washington State being possible destinations.
