SPOTLIGHT: Oregon Commit Jared Mayden
Calling Jared Mayden a special kind of player is an understatement. He is a tall corner back and a rugged player on the field. He possesses lighting speed and fits right into what Oregon wants in a player -- intelligent and willing to work hard.
Mayden committed to Oregon during The Opening Finals held at the Nike Campus in Beaverton on July 9. When he donned the Oregon hat he demonstrated his determination to strive for excellence and he will get that opportunity next season when he puts on the Oregon uniform. While at the opening, Mayden was able to bond with several future Ducks who were also performing at The Opening Finals.
Scout.com's Greg Powers described Mayden as a player who "uses his size, strength and speed to get off of blocks and contain."
Mayden is rangy with long arms and that 4.36 forty time is absolutely blazing. Not only is Mayden a defender but he can also play on special teams, returning punts and kickoffs. At Oregon, the more skills a player has the faster he can get playing time.
Powers goes on to say that Mayden is not afraid to mix it up with opposing receivers or running backs and will come up to the line of scrimmage to meet players head-on.
Possessing a great backpedal move, Mayden can close space quickly and get a great break on the ball out of the backpedal.
This video is a great inside view, allowing viewers to see the real Jared Mayden. He is destined for great things and could become one of the all-time greats the college game has ever seen.
