Oregon Tabs Vernon Adams as Starter

Vernon Adams, Jr., was listed as the starting quarterback in the newest depth chart released by the Oregon Ducks on Thursday afternoon. Adams, a transfer from Eastern Washington enrolled as a graduate student on Aug. 7, and it was thought that Jeff Lockie would start against Adams’ old team on Sept. 5.

Vernon Adams, threw for over 10,400 yards during his three-year stint with EWU. Last spring he announced his intentions of transferring to Oregon so that he could enroll in the Oregon School of Business and utilize his final year of eligibility as a Duck.

Jeff Lockie had been Marcus Mariota’s back up for two years and throughout fall camp, Oregon coaches have said that the competition at quarterback has been good and that either Adams or Lockie could start.

Besides the news of Adams being named starter headed into game week with EWU, or notable spots include Kani Benoit and Tony Brooks-James are slated to back up Royce Freeman at running back. Freshman Kirk Merritt is slated to back up Charles Nelson at wide receiver;  Matt Hegarty, the other transfer coming to Oregon for graduate school is the first-string center; Ugo Amadi will back up Arrion Springs at one cornerback and defensive end Canton Kaumatule is in contention as the back-up for DeForest Buckner. Henry Mondeaux, is listed as first string as the opposite DE from Buckner.

The starting offensive WR Dwayne Stanford, WR Charles Nelson, WR Byron Marshall, LT Tyler Johnstone, LG Matt Pierson, C Matt Hegarty, RG Cameron Hunt, RT Tyrell Crosby, TE Evan Baylis, RB Royce Freeman and QB Vernon Adams.

The starting defense: DE DeForest Buckner, NG Alex Balducci, DE Henry Mondeaux, OLB Tyson Coleman, ILB Rodney Hardrick, ILB Joe Walker, OLB Christian French, CB Chris Seisay, S Reggie Daniels, S Tyree Robinson and CB Arrion Strings.

PK is Alex Schneider; K Matt Wogan and the Punter is Ian Wheeler.


Bralon Addison is slotted to handle kick and punt returns. The long snapper is Tanner Carew and Taylor Alie is the holder.
