Tyler Johnstone Tops Schneider Scale

According to a release from the Football Writer's Association of America (FWAA), Oregon offensive tackle Tyler Johnstone has earned the highest rating on the Schneider Scale, a component of the Outland Trophy, for his performance against Eastern Washington last weekend.

The Schneider Scale was developed by the College of Education Sports Management at the University of Alabama, as rating system for linemen in order to order to promote and raise awareness of the Outland Trophy.

Johnstone received a rating of 180.0, which topped the list. The next highest rated player was Eddie Vanderdoes of UCLA with 155.0. Oregon' s oppenent this week, Michigan State had two players listed among the top-10 on the Schneider Scale. Center Jack Allen and OT Jack Conklin were tied for the eighth spot along with OG Dan Feeney of Indiana, all with a 108.0 score.

The scale ratings will be updated as the season continues.

The ratings are calculated based upon individual and team statistics. The scale was named after Henry Schneider, a graduate student at Alabama, who is responsible for statistical analysis for the Outland Trophy team.
