A preview of Cal's offense against Oregon's defense.

This week the Oregon Ducks host the California Golden Bears at Autzen Stadium for a 7:30 p.m.game that will be carried on ESPN2. The Bears feature Jared Goff, considered by many as the likely top quarterback that will be taken in next spring's NFL draft. In the first installment of the Cal-Oregon preview, Ryan Gorcey and Stave Summers look at the Cal offense against the Oregon defense.

The Cal Bears come into the game with a 5-3 record and 2-3 in conference play while the Ducks are also 5-3 for the season and 3-2 in conference action. The Bears are fifth in scoring at 35.8 points per game (Oregon leads the conference at 42.0 ppg), while the Ducks are at the bottom of the conference in points allowed, giving up 38.4 ppg (Cal allows 26.8 ppg).

Goff is the Pac-12’s second leading passer at 317.1 ypg of Cal’s total 337.4 ypg passing. Goff has thrown for 2,537 yards and 22 touchdowns on 205-for-309 attempts (66.3 percent) and has been picked off 11 times. Goff has a 151.7 QB efficiency rating.

WR Kenny Lawler has 45 catches in eight games for 527 yards and nine TDs. Goff also has thrown TDs to WR targets Stephen Anderson (31 catches, 373 yards, one TD), Darius Powe (27, 269, 3), Bryce Treggs (24, 381, 3), Trevor Davis (21, 398, 2) and Maurice Harris (20, 231, 3).

Cal’s running game is tenth in the conference at 152.8 ypg. Khalfani Muhammad is the top rusher for the Bears with 62 carries for 459 net yards and one TD with a long run of 74 yards. Vic Enwere has 68 carries for 310 net yards and five TDs and a long of 42. Daniel Lasco has 52 carries for 242 net yards, three TDs and long of 22.

The Ducks are last in scoring defense, total defense (496.9 ypg) passing defense (318.0) but are somewhat better in rushing defense (eighth in the conference allowing 178.9). One defensive area the Ducks have excelled is sacks where they are second in the Pac-12 with 26 so far this season.

Oregon is lead tackling by linebacker Joe Walker with 55 total tackles (24 solos) with four tackles for loss including one sack. Defensive end DeForest Buckner  is the leader in sacks with six and has a total of 11 TFLs. DE Henry Mondeaux has four sacks while DT Alex Balducci has 3.5 sacks. LB Tyson Coleman has three sacks; LB Terrodney Prevot has 2.5; LB Christian French has two along with DE Tui Talia.

The Ducks have a total of nine interceptions with CB Tyree Robinson accounting for three of those picks and CB Ugo Amadi recording two.

Kickoff for the Saturday night game is 7:30 p.m. and the game will be aired on ESPN2.
