Ducks Prepare for USC

Tuesday is the day Mark Helfrich holds a formal media conference and in this session Helfrich answered questions about Oregon's upcoming opponent USC. The Ducks are currently 3-5 for the season and 1-5 in conference play after beating ASU last Saturday, 54-35. This week's game will be carried on ESPN with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. Pacific.

USC experienced a dramatic turnaround since inserting Sam Darnold into the line up. Oregon heavily recruited Darnold and Helfrich a "great football player surrounded by great talent."

Helfrich was also asked about early signing dates in recruiting. While the coach sees no problem in moving an early signing date for high school players to the same date in December as the rule for junior college players is now, he does not favor an early signing date in the summer. Helfrich rationalizes that moving the early signing date to the summer months hinders a program like Oregon where distance factors have a bearing and that it is necessary to have official visits before a high school player officially commits via a National Letter of Intent.
