Oregon faces USC on Saturday

Oregon freshman quarterback Justin Herbert spoke to media following practice on Wednesday. Herbert and teammates are preparing to travel to the LA Memorial Coliseum on Saturday to play the USC Trojans. The game will feature a redshirt freshman signalcaller in Sam Darnold for the Trojans and of course Herbert for the Ducks.

While Herbert technically has an average of 199.20 yards per game passing, it should be noted that the average is based on games played. Herbert's first have consisted of one hand off. His second game was statistically better as he threw five passes, completing three for 70 yards. So, if the first game is elimnated from his statistics (after all he did not gain a yard either by passing or running) in four games he has thrown for 996 yards and 12 touchdowns or a 249-ypg average. Even more impressive is that his second appearance was in the final stages of the game and considering that he has started and played three full games, then his average is 308.66 yards and 12 touchdowns. Those numbers would rank him fourth in the conference in passing yardage average and he is now fifth in the conference in touchdowns thrown, even though he has only three game in which he has a passing TD.

Sam Darnold has been impressive in the eight games he's played in. However in the first three games he threw for a total of 136 yards and two TDs. In the ensuing five games he has thrown for 1,429 yards and 16 touchdowns.or a 285.8 ypg average.

The two obviously will not be on the field at the same time, but it will be interesting watching a pair of young Pac-12 quarterbacks square off.

On Wednesday, Herbert answered questions about the upcomng game that will be carried on ESPN with a kickoff of 4 p.m. Pacific.
