Civil War Blood Drive

Even though you may bleed either Green and Yellow or Orange and Black, we're all really Red inside.

The University of Oregon and Oregon State University are doing more than scoring points – we're saving lives. Last year, fans, friends, students, and alumni of both schools collectively donated nearly 5,000 units of blood to help Oregon patients during the two-week drive. This year, we are challenging our football fans in the state of Oregon to help us beat that number!

We are calling on you to donate blood, anywhere across the state where there is a Red Cross or Lane Memorial Blood Drive, during our 2nd Annual Civil War Blood Drive, November 3 – 17; an event sponsored by both the university alumni associations. In addition to scoring one point for your school, you'll help save as many as three lives – plus, you'll receive a Civil War Blood Drive pin while supplies last!! Please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or go online at to schedule your appointment; or in Lane County, call 541-484-9111.

Be sure to allot approximately an hour for your appointment and wear your school colors! Please sign the Civil War Blood Drive Honor Roll when you donate to support your team as well. The school with the most donors by November 17 will be announced during the Civil War football game on November 22 in Eugene.

We are asking for your support by joining us during the kick-off day and Pep Rally on Monday November 3 at the Portland Donor Center (3131 N. Vancouver). There will be a media hour between 11 a.m. and noon. The kick-off event will include school competitions and mascots, music, food, a raffle, and Portland area alumni. The Portland donor center will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. that day.

The holiday season will impact the blood inventories of American Red Cross and Lane Memorial Blood Bank. Because blood has a shelf life of 42 days, your donation in the month of November will help sustain lifesaving blood inventories into the holiday season. While holiday events distract us from regular blood donation in November and December, it's important to keep our community blood supply filled.

For more information about the Blood Drive, go to the UO Alumni Association website or contact Tony Seminary at or 503-624-3767 x 2125 if you have any questions about this event.

Both universities will be competing to win this blood drive, but the real winners are the patients who receive the gift of life. Together, we can save lives.
