Recruiting Notes

With the Ducks headed home to friendly Autzen Stadium after three weeks on the road, look for recruiting to start heating up. I expect Mike Bellotti to bring in a large group of prospects for their official visits this weekend and don't be surprised if someone announces a commitment within the following week.

Speaking of commitments, I think that Parris Moore, the 5-10, 180, 4.46, PrepStar All-Region defensive back from Fountain Valley (Ca) is likely a Duck. Just about everyone believes that Parris has given his verbal to Oregon, but the player just simply hasn't announced publicly yet.

The coaches have always recruited well in Northern California and this year isn't any different. Sitting in the stands while the Ducks mauled the Bears on Saturday was a solid group of recruits seriously considering Oregon. Some of the prospects rumored to be at the game were RB Derek Davis, DB Richard Harper, LB Kyle Goodman, QB Matt Gutierrez, TE Jesse Taylor and a huge mystery defensive lineman that I cannot name. Gutierrez, the Dream Team rated quarterback from legendary De La Salle high school, has recently named his top five favorite schools. Matt now says that he has narrowed his favorites to Oregon, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida, with all already offering scholarships. Reviewing his list of favorite schools, you have to love the Ducks chances of signing one of the premier QB's in the country. Oregon is Matt's only favorite listed that is remotely close to his hometown and when it comes to recruiting, players often favor the school that is geographically close to friends and family. It also doesn't hurt that freshman wide receiver, Demetrius Williams, is a De La Salle alum and good friend. Advantage Ducks.
