PIL Star Picks the Ducks

T.R. Smith, a 6-foot, 183-pound athlete from Portland (Ore.) Jefferson, has switched his verbal commitment in what can only be described as the 'Recruiting Civil War'. Instead of signing with his first choice - Oregon State - Smith has decided his heart belongs in Eugene.

"When I committed to Oregon State, I really didn't have any other options, so other schools stopped calling me and recruiting me," Smith told TheInsiders.com Friday afternoon. "But Oregon came on late and offered me, so I had a decision to make.

"I went on visits to both schools and then was in the position of looking at the likes and dislikes of both schools. I now know where I want to be at. I'm going to sign a letter of intent with Oregon on Wednesday."

So what was it about the Ducks that caused T.R. to reconsider his earlier commitment? "Well, I had to look at things like playing time and where I could play the earliest," he said. "And I also had to think about the coaches that I was going to be around for the next four or five years and I just felt more comfortable at Oregon."

Smith told the UO coaches last night of his decision. They like him as a running back. "I've been playing multiple positions my entire life, so I just want to play at a position where I can see the field the quickest."

Any chance T.R. could reconsider again before Wednesday? "No," Smith said, matter-of-factly. "It's a done deal."
