Smith anxious about heading to Eugene

T.R. Smith is excited about coming to Oregon. Besides running track this spring he is following the conditioning manual the Oregon coaching staff sent him to prepare for fall camp. So far the results are impressive. Smith looks bigger than he did a year ago and has the fastest time in 4-A this year for the 100 and 200 meter dash.

He's been keeping track of the Ducks too. He calls Reggie Kerney the former Benson Techman, now a linebacker for the Ducks.

"I've been calling my friend (Kerney) every week," said Smith while standing in the Moshofsky Center on Sunday participating in the Air Attack camp. "I just want to get here.

Kerney isn't the only Duck that Smith has met. He's also got to know Terrence Whitehead and among the new recruits David Faateete of North Medford.

Coach Neal Zoumboukos recruited Smith, and the current Jefferson Democrat explained why he chose Oregon over Oregon State during the recruiting process.

"Couch Zoumboukos is really down to earth," comment Smith of the recruiting process and explaining his selection of Oregon. "(He) didn't beat around the bush as far as telling me like it is."

Smith said Zoumboukos was very straightforward on what could be expected at Oregon and what Oregon expects of Smith. Smith said he may visit spring practice to get a look at his future teammates in action.
