Georgia Star Surprised by West Coast Interest.

On May 1, 2004, Brian Truelove received a phone call from the University of Oregon and it was a surprise. Truelove, 6-2, 273, Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood HS, said that Oregon was the first program to call him on the first day contact could be made for the 2005 recruiting class.

"They were the first ones to call," said Truelove of Oregon's phone call in May. "It came out of nowhere."

Each program is allowed one phone call per recruit in May and obviously the Ducks made the most out of their call to Truelove. Brian Truelove gave his verbal commitment to Oregon on July 7, 2004. The big defensive tackle had received one scholarship offer from Ball State while other programs showed great interest. Defensive Backs Coach John Neal used his experience and familiarity with the Atlanta area to Oregon's advantage in recruiting Truelove.

"I asked him (Neal) how he knew about me," Truelove recalled. "He told me that they have their ways."

Not surprisingly other programs are showing interest. Most recently, Connecticut has offered Brian according to his dad, Ben.

"Coach Bellotti told me last week that I would be getting a lot of offers since I made my commitment and sure enough they have," indicated the younger Truelove. "It doesn't matter who else offers, it will still be Oregon."

Truelove traveled west to attend a camp at the University of Washington on June 26th, and the following day he made the trek down I-5 to Eugene. Once at Autzen, there was no doubt in his mind where he would end up.

"After seeing Oregon was there no point on waiting for anybody else," confirmed Brian.

Truelove spent a good deal of time this spring and summer visiting colleges. He saw the campuses of Washington, Clemson, Mississippi, Iowa, Alabama and Ohio State to name a few. All of those programs have been recruiting him.

The summer vacation is just about over for Brian. His high school starts the school year on August 9th, and that means that football practice starts in the next couple of weeks. His team will open its season on August 21st in the Georgia Dome.

Brian will make a return trip to Autzen for his official visit but as yet the date is not settled. One thing that is settled is that Brian now considers himself a Duck and it is just a matter of time before he'll be running through the tunnel onto Rich Brooks Field at Autzen Stadium.
