Big Defensive Lineman Wants Duck Call

During the recruiting process, occasionally eDuck hears from high school players or their families who hope to catch the attention of the Oregon coaching staff. Such was the case recently with Daniel Zynn, a defensive tackle standout from South Pasadena, California, who contacted eDuck for a little help.

During the recruiting process, occasionally eDuck hears from high school players or their families who hope to catch the attention of the Oregon coaching staff. Such was the case recently with Daniel Zynn, a defensive tackle standout from South Pasadena, California, who contacted eDuck for a little help. It would be difficult to miss Daniel Zynn at 6-4, 283 lbs., 5.1 forty, but apparently the player failed to return a preseason questionnaire to the Oregon coaching staff, which was interpreted as a lack of interest in the Ducks. Thus, the PrepStar All-Region and 1st Team All-CIF selection as a junior fell off the Oregon radar. Zynn's stock soared during USC's lineman camp last Spring, when Daniel became the surprise of the camp that was attended by over 500 participants when he finished ranked #2, only trailing Dream Team rated OL/DL Fred Matua. This resulted in recruiting interest from schools such as Wisconsin, Oregon State, Arizona State and USC, with an offer from the Beavers. Daniel still hoped to hear from Oregon.

Zynn didn't slow down his senior year and usually played iron man football, lining up on both sides of the ball. On offense, his team usually ran behind his side where he recorded approximately 90 pancake blocks. Defensively, Daniel recorded about 75 tackles with half behind the line of scrimmage, 11 quarterback sacks and two blocked punts. Pretty much a great year.

So where does Zynn now stand with the Ducks? Well, after hearing from him, eDuck forwarded the information to the Oregon coaching staff and then took a big step backwards because we do not get involved in football recruiting. The result? We received yet another email from a very happy Daniel Zynn, who had just received a phone call from Oregon assistant football coach Gary Campbell. The coach is asking for video, so there must be at least a sliver of hope. Best of luck Daniel, you just never know…
