Walter Thurmond III

Done and done. The whirlwind recruitment of three-star cornerback Walter Thurmond III out of Covina, California is over. Thurmond told Scout.com Sunday night that he had committed to the Ducks during his visit to Eugene

Until recently, this relatively unknown recruit was never on the Duck radar. What changed? "Coaches got my tapes, and they saw what I could do on the football field," Walter said proudly. "I've had my eye on Oregon for a while."

The biggest recruiting weekend of the year was the past weekend and Walter made good on his plans to commit on his visit. Wally was pretty sure that he would commit on his trip to Oregon, but the weekend trip put him over the top and solidified his commitment to the Ducks. Along with paintball, great food, and a Civil War basketball game, Wally said that his time with fellow cornerback, Willie Glasper helped make the trip a great one.

While his height (5-11) and weight (165 pounds) may be more like that of a basketball point guard, Walter's speed (4.4 second 40) and quickness (4.3 second shuttle) are his biggest assets. Thurmond also recorded a vertical leap of 34 inches. Finally, he also gets it done in the classroom; "Wally" carries a 3.1 GPA.

Thurmond plans to participate in track at the University of Oregon competing in the hurdles and high jump. "I might even try the decathlon," he said half-heartedly. Wally certainly is an athlete in every sense of the word. "I'm going to help the team out the best I can at punt return, kick return, and corner."

The staff at Scout.com wishes Walter all the best of luck at his new home in Eugene, Oregon.
