Love has big night against Lincoln

Scoring 45 points and hauling down 17 rebounds, Lake Oswego sophomore center Kevin Love led his team in a 92-74 rout over Lincoln High School of Portland, in the third round of the Oregon 4A playoffs. Love was 20-of-24 from the free throw line tonight as Lincoln threw everything it had at Lake Oswego. Three Lincoln players fouled out along the way and Love took advantage of the trips to the charity line to pad the lead.

The game started out looking as though Lincoln would control the tempo but somewhere along the way, Lake Oswego discovered that pounding the ball into Love at the low post was almost guaranteed a score and a free throw attempt. At halftime Lake Oswego built a 43-29 lead and when play resumed in the third quarter the pace increased and Lake Oswego found itself able to run at will with Love controlling the boards and finding streaking teammates on deadly outlet passes for easy lay-ins. Nick Lomax had 15 points for Lake Oswego and Wes Collett contributed 12 to the winning cause. LaTravis Turner paced Lincoln with 21 points and six rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Lake Oswego advances to MacCourt Court on the University of Oregon campus next week to face South Medford and Kyle Singler in continued playoff action. Many regard Singler (6-8, 200) and Love (6-9, 260) as the best two players in the state. Both are sophomores. South Medford earned the right to face off with Lake Oswego with an 85-72 win over Hillsboro.
