Potential No. 1 Recruit has a Western Offer

Wondering whom the Ducks are offering scholarships to? Well, try offensive lineman Connor Smith, 6-5, 295, Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain HS. Smith is a player that Scout.com's Midwest Recruiting Analyst Chris Pool thinks might be the No. 1 Midwest prospect when Scout.com announces it's ratings in June.

Pool recently spoke with Connor Smith and found out that Oregon has offered the big lineman and reported it in a story entitled Scout.com's #1 Midwest prospect.

Although Smith is leaning toward staying at home at Ohio State where his father Joe Smith played for Woody Hays and Earl Bruce in the early 80s. Connor is still open right now, but if pressed he'd narrow it down between Ohio State, Tennessee and Michigan.

For Duck fans what might be of interest is that Connor mentioned the Ducks as a school that is courting him and certainly Oregon has not let distance stop them from going after players they want. Last year, Mike Bellotti talked about the problems of recruiting nationally and that certainly distance away from home is a factor. However, the Ducks try and sell the program and have attracted players from Georgia, Illinois, Florida, Alabama, Missouri and New Jersey. So trying to pluck what would seem to be a lock for Ohio State might be a long shot but the Ducks are known for taking chances and going all out in recruiting.

If Smith ends up the No. 1 prospect in the Midwest, it will be interesting to see how long the Ducks stay on the recruiting trail of this impressive prospect.
