A report in the Ashville Citizen-Times indicated that Tony Koone a native of Ashville (NC) would join the Ducks in 2006, but Koone told Chris Fetters of Scout.com that he has not made a commitment. In fact he has not been in contact with the Ducks since May.
"I was going to call them up and talk more about it with the coaches," Koone said. "But it's no big deal, I'm still open."
Koone indicated he is 6-3, 215, 4.49 40 and had 12 sacks and 135 tackles for Southwestern College (Calif.) last year. Oregon is currently his only offer, but Texas A&M and North Carolina State are the other two at the top of his recruiting list
"I talked to a coach at the combine in California, the defensive coordinator, I think, and that's it," Koone told Scout.com of his contact with the Oregon coaching staff.
In terms of making the jump from North Carolina to Oregon Koone said, "it would be a big jump."
He's expecting to graduate in 2006 with three years to play two.
Koone still wants to talk to the Oregon coaches about committing -- the Ducks are his only offer and a verbal commitment could be soon.
