New Numbers and Special Teams

The Ducks worked on special team's skills on Tuesday and one player not only returned to the field but also is sporting a new jersey number. No. 28 now belongs to freshman running back Jonathan Stewart. Sophomore Andiel Brown gave up 28 to his new friend Stewart and now Brown will wear the 27 jersey.

Stewart was running at full speed after being given his old high school number and looks fully recovered from his recent leg/calf injury that had sidelined him for a few days. Among other things, Stewart looked good reeling in a long pass during the 11-on-11 drills that preceded the special teams work.

Receivers Jordan Kent and Jaison Williams made impressive deep receptions also during the 11-on-11 drills.

The majority of the practice focused on special teams covering nearly every formation consequently the action was limited. The squad walked through the various formations and in some ways the hitting was less intense than it had been in other sessions. This session was a bit unusual and something that might be expected in a game preparation week.

Wide receiver Demetrius Williams, offensive linemen Palauni Ma Sun, Levi Horn and Jeff Kendall were held out along with tight end Dante Rosario. Rosario looks to be fine and was riding an exercise bike during practice.

Overall, the offense appeared smoother as the new offense polished up for next week's game and ran mostly pass plays.

The team will conduct a closed scrimmage tomorrow inside Autzen Stadium.
