Oregon racked up 554 yards against the Cougars of Houston at Reliant Stadium while giving up 412 yards. Senior quarterback Kellen Clemens had an outstanding night passing for 348 yards going 30-for-47, two touchdowns and also rushed for an additional net 72 yards ranking him 2nd nationally in total offense. Clemens is also nationally ranked in completions (tied for 5th/ 30), passing efficiency (35th, 140.1) and rushing (tied 65th/72.0).
Senior wide receiver Demetrius Williams had nine catches for 133 yards and junior wide receiver James Finley had 10 catches for 95 yards. The Houston game put both Finley and Williams in the national rankings for pass receptions. Finley is tied for 4th nationally while Williams is tied for 10th. Williams is also 9th in receiving yards at 133.0 yards per game.
Sophomore place kicker Paul Martinez was 5-of-6 in field goals last Thursday and that performance ranks him 2nd nationally in field goals attempted and the 15 points made ranks him 10th.
Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti is now 28-9 for September games in his 11 years as the top man at Oregon.
Senior strong safety Anthony Trucks led the Ducks in tackles last week with a total of 11 tackles (three solo and eight assisted). Trucks also had a pass break-up. Sophomore linebacker A.J. Tuitele had a total of nine tackles (three solo and six assisted) and a break-up. Junior defensive tackle Matt Toeaina had seven total tackles (1 solo/six assisted) including 1.5 tackles for loss (13 yards) and two pass break-ups. Senior cornerbacks Aaron Gipson and Rodney Woods both recorded an interception against Houston.
The depth chart for week 2 basically remains the same as week 1 with the exception of sophomore guard Josh Tschirgi now listed as the starter with Paluni Ma Sun as the back-up. Tschirgi was made the starter against Houston even though he had not been listed as such on last week's depth chart. Both he and Ma Sun saw significant playing in Houston. Another change on the week 2 chart is junior defense end Victor Filipe is now the starter at left end in place of the injured Devan Long. Filipe is backed up by freshman Nick Reed. Last week Filipe was listed as backing up right end Darius Sanders. Sanders is now backed up by senior Nate LiaBraaten.
Freshman Jonathan Stewart is now listed as a starting kick return specialist and is solely the number 2 running back with redshirt freshman Terrell Jackson as the third man on the list behind senior Terrence Whitehead and Stewart.
Freshman Matt Everson is now listed as the first kick off specialist with Martinez as the back up.
Saturday's home game against Montana is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start.
