No Pressure

La Puente (Calif.) linebacker Jonathan Cornell (6-3, 220, 4.55) hasn't set any official visits yet and doesn't anticipate doing so until the latter part of his season. "I haven't really spoken yet with any coaches about visiting. Nobody is really pressuring me about this," Cornell said.

"My favorites are USC (already visited, camp), UCLA (already visited), Kansas, Oregon and Arizona State. All have offered me. I would say that USC and UCLA are recruiting me the hardest. They are in the lead, but I'd say it's only a small lead. I wouldn't give them too much credit.

"It'll come down to what my gut feeling is. Who's in the lead between those two now? No comment. If I had to choose now, it would really be a tough choice. That's all I can say.

"USC recruited like five top-notch linebackers last year," he said. "I'm not afraid of competition, but UCLA recruited only three linebackers and I think they lose three or even four, so there is a difference there and I'd like to play early.

"Another difference between them is that you can go to USC and get a business degree. You can't get a degree in business at UCLA. You would get a degree in something else there and then you could go to graduate business school. But I don't know for sure if I'm going to major in business anyway.

"My childhood favorite is actually Notre Dame. But they aren't recruiting me hard any more," he said. "I've gotten a lot of calls this month from coaches but haven't been home to get them. I don't get home from practice until seven or eight at night. I have managed to speak with coaches from USC, Kansas and Oregon. They just talk with me about how my season is going and other stuff.
