Nike Camp Profile: Lawrence Jackson

We heard about him last year when Oregon was recruiting his older brother, Keith, and on Saturday Lawrence Jackson showed why some rank him as the top defensive end prospect in the west. If you had to describe him with only one word, it would have to be "explosive".

Lawrence Jackson is a 6-4, 241 pound, defensive end out of Inglewood (CA) who shows great quickness off the ball. On Saturday he ran an impressive 4.93 forty, yet what really dazzled spectators was his total domination of each offensive lineman that he faced during the one on one drills. No player came close to containing him as he blasted by each with superior technique and speed. Lawrence drew a lot of "wows" and some of the Nike Camp staff had him ranked in the top handful of players who participated at any position.

Jackson is a blue-chip, can't miss, prospect that many schools have at the top of their wish list for the class of 2003. As a junior, Lawrence established himself as the top pass rusher in California after recording 134 tackles and 20 quarterback sacks. He earned 1st team All-State Underclass in addition to Junior All-American honors by Student Sports.

On the recruiting front, Jackson has asserted that he plans to play his college football outside of California. This could be great news for Duck fans, since he recently told SuperPrep that Oregon currently holds a slight lead for his services and that he plans to attend their summer football camp. Jackson also indicated that he admires Oregon's intensity on the field, how united the team is and even enjoys cooler weather. Other favorites that he has mentioned include Miami, Colorado, BYU, Northwestern and Arizona. The rumor is that Oregon has already offered Lawrence Jackson a scholarship.
