Big Relief!

For Vallejo, Calif., defensive back Bobby Guillory (5-9, 173, 4.4) it was a long period of holding his breath to see if he met the NCAA eligibility requirements with his test scores. "I just got my score this week," said Guillory, of Bethel High School. "I got a 970 on the SAT, so I'm qualified. I'm still waiting on the ACT, and I took the SAT again on the 21st of October just in case. It was definitely a relief.

"I will be posting the score on the NCAA Clearing House soon," he added.

Once that is posted, he said he is hoping it sparks the interest on a few of the schools he is looking at that have not yet offered. Those schools of interest include his top choice, Oregon, as well as USC and California. Rounding out a top five for him are Sacramento State and Washington -- both schools have offered.

"My views on the schools are pretty much the same as before, except now I have the added part about wanting to compete in track as well as being a member of the football team. The only schools that I have been talking to about doing both have been Cal and Sac State. Others may be open to it, but I haven't been talking with them about it yet," Guillory explained.

Guillory is a standout in track as he garnered a seventh place finish at the state meet in the 100m and an eighth place finish in the 200m. He also participates as a member of the 400m and 1600m relay teams. His personal best for the 100 is a 10.63 and in the 200 is 21.50. He has a 49.2 split in the 1600 meter relay.

"Right now Oregon is still on top, but it's kind of hard because now I am looking at doing track and football. Track is a thing that I like to do in the off-season of football, and I would just like to continue that in college. Also, the school has to have my major," he said.

He is looking into an outdoor-type major that encompasses areas such as fish, game and wildlife. "Something along the lines of being a park ranger," he added. Cal is the latest addition to his top five. "They are close to home and they have the same weather. They have been trying to get me to come for some home games."

He has one official set up on Dec. 9 to Sacramento State. "I'm going to wait on the others and see what happens with some of the schools that haven't offered yet," he noted.

Bethel is now 6-3-1 on the season and will travel to El Dorado to take on Union Mine on Nov. 18. Guillory's stats through his first seven games are 38 carries for 537 yards and seven touchdowns, and 12 completions in 22 attempts at quarterback.
