Autzen Stadium: Energetic

Quarterback Justin Roper, 6-7, 195, Buford (Ga.) Buford HS, played in his state quarterfinals on Friday night against defending state champion Charlton County and on Saturday morning caught a flight for Eugene, Oregon. He arrived at Autzen Stadium in the middle of the third quarter of the Oregon-Oregon State game and it was foggy and loud, even though some of the fans were leaving because of the blowout inside Autzen Stadium.

Still, the Oregon crowd was very energetic even if their team was on its way to a 56-14 win in the 109th annual Civil War.

Roper is a prized recruit being pursued by Oregon, Louisville, Duke, Georgia Tech and Maryland among others. Justin has his list narrowed to four schools, Oregon (offer), Louisville (offer), Duke (offer) and Tennessee. He plans to visit Duke in two weeks. Tennessee has not yet offered him a scholarship, but will get back to him once a new offensive coordinator for the Vols is hired.

How did his trip go to Eugene?

"It went very well," Roper said of his trip to the campus of the University of Oregon. "I had a really good time."

The big quarterback recruit explained that he did not make a commitment on his trip because he and his family had decided that he would make all of his trips and not act upon the emotional high that a visit could create. So after his visits are done he and his family will evaluate what are his best options and then make a decision.

While football is now done because of a 26-21 loss on Friday night to Charlton County, Roper will now turn his attention on basketball and then in the spring to track. Roper was third in the state last year in the high jump (6-6) and will also run the 400 for his school.
