Oregon Tops For Avila

One of the top prospects in Orange County this year is Andy Avila, a 5-10, 175, 4.47 RB/DB from Huntington Beach, CA. Andy recently transferred into football powerhouse Edison High School for his senior season.

Andy spent his first three years of high school at private Calvary Chapel where former Duck, Danny O'Neil coached prior to moving to Eugene. Did that start a connection to Oregon? Avila tore up the Olympic league during his sophomore year, rushing 160 times for 1414 yards, 10 touchdowns and averaged 40 yards on kick-off returns. He is a speed burner. Thus, Avila was named 1st team All-CIF and All-Olympic league at running back. Unfortunately, during the two-a-day practices prior to his junior year, Andy seriously separated his shoulder, which severely hampered his performance last season. Several months ago Avila decided that in order to get evaluated against top talent, he needed to transfer to a CIF Division 1 school for his senior season. At Edison (Huntington Beach), Avila will be playing for one of the top football programs in the state and teamed with blue-chip quarterback prospect Tommy Grady, who is also being recruited by Oregon.

This season Andy Avila will likely play both the running back and cornerback positions, although many predict his future is on defense in college. Entering his senior year, a 100% healthy Avila should be poised for a breakout season. He is planning on attending the Nike Camp at Stanford on May 18th and is scheduled to attend the Oregon one-day camp in June. Many colleges have shown serious interest, but Andy Avila's current favorite is Oregon, followed by Wisconsin, Illinois, UCLA and Stanford. Andy also runs track and is excellent in the classroom. We will be hearing more about this talented football player during the fall.
