Jameel Dowling Profile
"With the players, coaches and academic staff there, I just felt like everything came together," Dowling told Scout.com Tuesday. "I just felt like I could get something done there.
"I talked with Coach Bellotti and we got to the point about scholarships. When they started recruited me, they didn't offer at first. But he asked me if I wanted to come to Oregon and I committed."
Dowling's only other firm offer was from Purdue. "I know schools like Missouri and Wazzu (Washington State) were recruiting me, but they hadn't offered me," said Dowling, who also added that, while he had visits set up with both schools he would not be taking any more official visits.
Patrick Chung was Jameel's host. "There was no real highlight," he said of his trip. "I just liked the visit. I had a good time."
It sounds like the Ducks will use Dowling's versatility to fill in more than one hole. "I can play multiple positions," he said. "I can play corner, free safety and receiver. They told me they need help in their secondary. I've got experience there and I think I can compete right away."
Dowling will be a mid-year signee with three years to play two.
