Conan Amituanai Profile
"I think I'm more of a tight end," Amituanai said. "I'm big but move well. I'm not your typical 6-4, 280 guy. I block really well and can run. But I'd still like to lower my 40 time and improve my side-to-side movement. I'm mostly a straight ahead runner and just run over people."
Amituanai favors Oregon slightly over Arizona, Washington and Cal. Of those, only the Ducks and Wildcats have offered. Utah has also offered. In fact, he visited Oregon on December 2.
"It felt like home out there," Amituanai said. "The players are cool and the coaches are great people. I loved the facilities and the campus. I liked how honest the coaches seemed and how it felt like a family. I talked to a lot of the players and they seemed really happy and said that Eugene is a great place because you can focus on football and school. It's a lot different from Los Angeles, that's for sure."
He also had an in-home visit from Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti and linebackers coach Don Pellum last night. "They spent a lot of time talking to my aunt and my father," Amituanai said. "They both seemed very pleased with coach Bellotti and Pellum."
Amituanai will be visiting Washington on January 6 and Arizona on January 13. "The Washington coaches haven't been by my house, but they stopped by the school. They said they really want me to visit and we'll see if they offer after that."
Arizona may have an inroad with Amituanai because his uncle is defensive line coach Mike Tuiasosopo. "I feel really comfortable there and around all the coaches. The team is definitely on the rise."
Amituanai says he plans to take all of his official visits before he makes a decision. "I'm looking for a home and a family that I can be a part of forever," Amituanai said. "That's what's most important to me."
He reports a 2.3 GPA and a 1360 SAT.
