Met a future teammate while stranded

Offensive lineman Jordan Holmes, 6-4, 280, Yuba City (Calif.) Yuba City HS, was headed to Eugene for an official visit a couple of weeks ago, but when his flight from Sacramento arrived at San Francisco he discovered the next leg of the trip to Eugene was cancelled. As a result, Holmes was stuck at the airport for a later flight and while waiting he would meet another student-athlete that was in the same predicament.

Jordan Holmes Profile

"I was on a flight to San Francisco from Sacramento and our flight to Eugene was cancelled so I was stuck in San Francisco (Airport) with the guy from Butte College Jameel Dowling," Holmes related to Scout.com. "We got to know each other and he made his decision while he was up there"

Holmes and Dowling were among eight visitors that traveled to Eugene two weeks ago. It was an opportunity for Holmes to discuss some things with the coaching staff, meet some of the players who were in practice in preparation for the Holiday Bowl and also to meet some fellow recruits. The trip was not the first time Holmes had been to Eugene.

"It was a lot fun, got to meet all the guys," said Holmes of the official visit. "I've been there a couple of times already because my family is from there so I'm familiar with the area."

Holmes is being recruited as an offensive lineman, either a center or guard. He played on both sides of the ball in high school and was also a long snapper for his team. His team didn't keep any defensive statistics but on offense Jordan knows he only gave up two sacks all year long on a team that was not having a good year, finishing up 3-7 for the season.

Jordan has talked a lot with offensive line coach Steve Greatwood and has been told by the Oregon coaching staff to come in ready to play his freshman year. The Duck coaches have also talk to Holmes about being a long snapper.

Utah offered Holmes a scholarship the day after he committed to Oregon (a couple of weeks before he made his official visit). Sacramento State and Nevada also extended scholarship offers to Holmes.
