Little Leaguers Named Honorary Chairs

The Rancho Buena Vista Little League Pirates were named honorary chairs of the 2005 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, 2005 president Stephen P. Cushman announced today. For nearly three decades, the game has given the honor to individuals who have significantly contributed to sports in San Diego. This year the bowl is recognizing not one, but a team of young individuals.

The Rancho Buena Vista Little League Pirates became California Little League legends after winning two dozen consecutive games, breaking records and finally finishing third in the world.

"We are so pleased to recognize these fine young athletes as our honorary chairs," said Cushman. "What they accomplished this past season truly is phenomenal. I sincerely hope we are able to provide them with another fabulous experience at the December 29 bowl game and surrounding events."

The game is Thursday, December 29 and features the Oregon Ducks and Oklahoma Sooners. Kickoff at Qualcomm Stadium is 5 p.m. The game is sold out, and will air live nationally on ESPN.

The Pirates also will serve as grand marshals in the bowl game's Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade. The parade will march along Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego on game day at 10 a.m. More than 100,000 streetside spectators are expected to line the one-mile route. It will air live locally on Channel 4 San Diego, then be broadcast nationally on the USA Network on Friday, December 30 at 9 a.m. EST/PST.
