Conan Amituanai Profile
"I really liked my Cal visit," Amituanai said. "I like that it's in-state and I have family in the Bay Area. It's fun up there and there's a lot to do. It's like Los Angeles, but probably a bit more laid-back.
"I really liked talking to all the players. They talked to me about living in Berkeley and how it's fun, but not too distracting. Also, I talked to a lot of the Hawaiian players they have and they really like it. I like that Cal has a lot of Polynesians too."
Amituanai said that Cal is the only school that is recruiting him strictly as a tight end. He says that Cal and Oregon are his top two schools over Washington (January 6 official visit) and Arizona (January 13 official visit). All of his favorites have offered him.
"Cal and Oregon are my two favorites because I've already visited them," Amituanai said. "The biggest difference between Cal and Oregon is the environment. Eugene is a small town and there isn't much to do, but the players are treated like celebrities. Both the coaching staffs are really cool and they players all have a great bond.
"Oregon has impressed me the most this season because they only lost to USC," Amituanai said. "They had a great year and the coaches are really good, so I think they'll be a top team every year."
Amituanai said that Arizona is recruiting him the hardest. "They've been after me since my junior year. His uncle is defensive line coach Mike Tuiasosopo at Arizona.
"At the end it's gonna come down to where I feel I can grow and become a better person and a better player. I really want to be part of a family."
He reports a 2.3 GPA and a 1360 SAT.
