Holland's speed is intriguing

He won't be making his decision known at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl to be played this Saturday (Jan. 7) in the Alamodome in San Antonio, but for Duck fans Jamere Holland's day is going to be closely watched. Holland is one of the top players from around the country that will be playing in the all-star game that will be carried live on NBC with a kickoff scheduled for noon (Central Time). Scout.com is a National Sponsor of the Army All-American Bowl.

Jamere Holland, 6-0, 180, 4.4, Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft HS, is considered one of the fastest high school athletes in the country and was one of two athletes to record a time of 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash during last summer's Scout combines. Holland is rated four-stars and is ranked No. 10 nationally as a wide receiver.

Holland had 55 receptions for 1,188 yards 17 touchdowns for Taft this season. Taft won 13 straight games this year before losing to Crenshaw, 20-14 in the championship game of the Los Angeles City Section. Defensively, Holland recorded 21 tackles and five assisted tackles for 26 total tackles. He also had two interceptions and blocked two punts.

Oregon will be the destination for his next official visit on the weekend of Jan. 13-15. It is expected that the Ducks will host about 20 visitors on that weekend and for the past several years, Oregon has done well in having potential recruits make verbal commitments during a big weekend. No verbal commitment is binding until a recruit sends a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to a program. This year the earliest date a NLI can be sent is Feb. 1st.

In track, Holland ran the 100-meter dash in 10.38 seconds on May 19, 2005 at the LA City Prelims.
