Mike Bellotti started building his 2003 recruiting class with a bang on Tuesday when he received a verbal commitment from top quarterback prospect Johnny DuRocher of Spanaway, Washington. DuRocher is the first known football commitment for the Ducks
Johnny DuRocher is a 6-4, 205, 4.78, prototype signal caller from Bethel High School, who led his team to the Washington 4A semi-finals this past season. As a junior, he passed for 2,300 yards and 23 touchdowns, with only six interceptions. Johnny has a big time arm and can make all the tough throws. On film he compares favorably to Kyle Wright and Dennis Dixon, who have been drawing more of the national recruiting attention lately, yet more than half of the Pac-10 has already offered DuRocher a scholarship. PacWest Football's Greg Biggins recently wrote that on film, Johnny DuRocher ranks in the top five quarterbacks nationally that have participated in Nike Camps this year. Could an Elite 11 invitation be far behind?
DuRocher picked Oregon primarily over Washington and Notre Dame. The Ducks are now off to a great start and will look to build more recruiting momentum after this big time commitment.
