Long drives proof of dedication

A player that is receiving attention from some pretty impressive programs around the country is quarterback Jake Gelakoska, 6-4, 215, 4.52, Mill Creek (Wash.) Henry M. Jackson HS and for good reasons. The soon-to-be senior is one of the top signal callers in the Northwest and nearly every Sunday he spends seven hours riding in a car just to practice his skills.

As a junior last season, Gelakoska threw for 1,886 yards, going 131-for-237 (.553 completion rate) for 16 touchdowns with only five interceptions for an impressive 209.6 yards per game average. He also rushed for an additional 368 yards and four touchdowns. His team finished 5-5 for the season, losing its last game in the playoffs.

According to his dad, Joe, the driver for the trip from the Seattle area to Portland Community College and back ever Sunday, Jake is hearing from BYU, California, Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Ohio State, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington (offer) and Washington State (offer). The Gelakoskas make the weekend trips to Oregon so that Jake can attend the Greg Barton Football Camp held at PCC's Sylvania campus in Southwest Portland.

Last Sunday the boys worked on their basic fundamentals and of course threw lots of passes during the Barton Camp.

Joe Gelakoska also mentioned that Jake would have a busy summer attending a number of camps including the Nike Camp in Eugene and a one-day camp at the University of Oregon. In addition he will be off to the OSU, UW and WSU camps around the same time in June.

Meanwhile, Jake will continue making the trip to Portland frequently, honing up his quarterback skills for next season.
