Husker Attention

Concord (Calif) defensive back Lonnie Wishom (5-11, 180, 4.6) said he slightly favors Nebraska over California and Oregon. None have offered. "I haven't got any offers yet, but I think Nebraska might be getting close," Wishom said. "They have definitely been recruiting me the hardest. I've also been getting stuff from Georgia Tech, Arizona, Cal, UCLA, Oregon, Fresno State, Washington State, Northwestern and Nevada.

Lonnie Wishom Profile

"Nebraska is showing the most interest right now. I've talked to Coach (Dennis) Wagner and he said he wants me to come down for a visit in June. He said he's coming to my school on May 13 to check me out. Hopefully, I'll see an offer after that. I've watched the Huskers on television since I was young and I've always had great respect for their winning tradition. I'd love to play for Coach (Bill) Callahan. He's coached in the NFL. He's the type of coach that knows what it takes to get to the next level.

"My number two school is Cal," said the De La Salle High School defender. "I've gotten a lot of stuff in the mail from them. I went to their junior day. Growing up in the Bay Area, I've always like Cal. They're team is just getting better every year.

"I like Oregon a lot too. I know lots of guys that have gone there and they all tell me how nice it is up there. Their facilities are top-notch. I've been getting a lot of letters from them wanting me to come up for a visit. They sent me an invite for their summer camp, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it. I'd like to take an unofficial (visit) up there soon. I haven't talked to them yet…I'm waiting for them to contact me."

Wishom, whose team went 11-2 last season, said he is not fazed by his lack of offers. "I know things will start coming around after May 1. I really want to get to as many camps this summer as possible. I need to get a little more exposure.

"I'm really good at being physical with the receiver. I've perfected my bump and run. I really want to work on my hands and my speed. I need to be more comfortable in the zone. I know I won't last against a guy who runs a 4.3 right now. I need to get my 40-time down."

Bench: 285/squat: 525/power clean: 240

Wishom reports a 2.9 core GPA/1740 SAT.
